2013 Is such a wonderful year for Korean Dramas! Well if you have browsed the list of upcoming k-dramas in 2014,  you will find there are even more to look forward to. Alright, let’s get started – the list of Upcoming korean dramas in 2014:

We wish you a great 2014, and recommend these 10 upcoming K-dramas to help you enjoy a new year!

Here are some upcoming K-dramas for early 2014. I arranged these dramas by three major Korean broadcasting companies’ (MBS, KBS, SBS) Mon/ Tues and Weds/Thurs lineups along with some cable channels. It means these dramas, which are located in the same weekday lineup, will be rivals, and we are going to have to two-time these dramas.

Here are the new dramas that will replace them:

1. MBC’s drama after Empress K (50 episodes), Unprecedented (2014. 04)

MBC’s Mon/Tues line is usually for historical K-dramas. Empress Ki has record the top on ratings even though there has been an issue that the drama commits history distortion. After the end of the drama Empress KiUnprecedentedwhich is written by Kim Young Hyun, will be aired. However, MBC decided to make Jewel In The Palace part 2, whose part 1 was also written by Kim Young Hyun. K-drama fans and the writer don’t want to watch Jewel In The Palace 2 written by another writer, so if Unprecedented is postponed, it means that Jewel In The Palace 2 will come soon.  Director : Park Hong Kyun (New Heart, Queen Seon Duk)

Screenwriter : Kim Young Hyun, Park Sang Yun (Queen Seon Duk, Tree With Deep Roots, H.I.T)

Cast : Han Suk Kyu, Kim Nam Gil and Cha Seung Won are considering roles as the main characters.

Story : This is about the last two forces of the Joseon Kingdom’s founding members, Jung Do Jun vs Lee Bang Won, who symbolized the confrontation between the royal authority and theocracy. The drama will show these two men’s fight through action and political stories.

2. KBS’s drama after The Prime Minister and I (17 episodes), The Full Sun (2014.02.10)

Director : Bae Kyung Soo (Wild Romance, Women Of The Sun) Screenwriter : Huh Sung Hye (K-film All About My Wife)

Cast : Yoon Kye Sang, Jo Jin Woong, Han Ji Hye, Song Jong Ho

Story : This is the story of a severe fate between a man, who lost his father and his life by a gun shot over Diamond in Thailand, and a woman, who lost her fiancé. The melodrama will show a man’s revenge and love.

3. SBS’ drama after One Warm Word (20 episodes), Present of God – 14days (working title) (2013.02)

SBS can’t be satisfied with being a winner of Weds/ Thurs. They cast Lee Bo Young and Lee Jong Suk, who were the best contributors to the K-drama I Hear Your Voice, for their two different dramas set against MBC’s powerful historical dramas. As a viewer, I am happy to see this great actress and actor playing more good characters this year.

Director : Lee Dong Hoon (Protect The Boss) Screenwriter : Choi Ran (Iljimae)

Cast : Lee Bo Young is positively considering this drama as her comeback work after her marriage.

Story : This is about a mother’s time travel to revive her dead child.

I think time travel is not a good choice to get viewers’ attentions right now, but as you know, Lee Bo Young is a queen of viewer ratings in Korea. I will take a look to check her reputation.

4. Next drama after Present of God – 14days (working title), Doctor Stranger (or Doctor Lee Bang In) (2014. 4)

+1

Director : Jin Hyuk (City Hunter, Prosecutor Princess, Shining Inheritance)

Screenwriter : Park Jin Woo (The Kingdom Of The Wind)

Cast : Lee Jong Suk has the most potential of becoming a main character, and Park Hye Jin is considering starring in this drama.

Story : This is about a genius doctor who escaped from North Korea. He starts to work for a South Korean best hospital but can’t blend in with a group of doctors so he lives as a stranger.

7. SBS’ drama after My Love From Another Star (20 episodes), Three Days (2014.02)

Can SBS remain at the top this year? My Love From Another Star’s episode 4 hit 20% viewer ratings, and this drama records number one throughout weekdays’ dramas. This drama will finish in February 2014, and Three Days will start. Son Hyun Joo and Yoon Jae Moon, who are famous as character actors, and young actors and actresses like Park Yoo Chun, Park Ha Sun, and So Yi Hyun gain people’s attention through their star power.

Cable Channel – tvN, OCN

8. tvN’s Friday/ Saturday drama after Answer Me 1994 (21 episodes), Emergency Marriage(2014.01.24)

We can see Choi Jin Hyuk, who starred in Heirs as Tan’s brother Won, again very soon in this DramaFever exclusive. He chose a romantic comedy drama as his next work after Heirs. I want to watch his comical and bright side through the drama. Also, If you like Running Man, you know who Song Ji Hyo is, who will plays the ex-wife of Jin Hyuk. Answer Me 1994 recorded higher ratings than major broadcasting companies’ dramas even though this was aired through a cable channel, so its popularity will help Emergency Marriage draw people.

Cast : Choi Jin Hyuk, Song Ji Hyo

Story : A romantic comedy about a couple who married during medical school but due to their clashing personalities divorced soon afterwards. They are reunited years later as interns at a hospital. Will love strike again for the two?

9. tvN’s Monday/ Tuesday drama after Basketball (18 episodes), I Need Romance3 (2014.01.13)

The I Need Romance series caught young women’s attentions so there are many people waiting to watch this drama. Kim So Yoen is the typical actress who stars in major broadcasting companies’ dramas, and usually plays serious characters. This drama will be a good chance for her to change her heavy image. Sung Joon is familiar with the tvN channel because he starred inShut up Flower Boy Band. And Namgoong Min and Park Yoo Hwan, Park Yoo Chun’s brother, also star in this drama, so I expect to see good pictures filled with handsome guys.

Director : Jang Young Woo (I Need Romance 2) Screenwriter : Jung Hyun Jung (I Need Romance 1, 2)

Cast : Kim So Yeon, Sung Joon, Namgoong Min, Yoon Seung Ah, Park Yoo Hwan

10. OCN drama Vampire Prosecutor Spin Off, The Vampire.

There is no specific information about this new drama, but Channel OCN, where the Vampire Prosecutor series were aired, revealed that they are preparing Vampire Prosecutor’s spin off drama, The Vampire through its 2014 teaser. OCN usually introduces English and American dramas, and they focus on investigation, action and mystery stories like foreign dramas.

What makes you watch K-dramas? Star casting has strong power but some people follow directors and writers. In my case, I look forward to seeing the production crew who made the K-drama Pasta’s new drama, Garden time. That crew is making Miss Korea now. When I check information about the director and writer, I can predict the dramas’ quality. After I hear casting news then I can draw pictures in my mind.

Unprecedented and I Need Romance are my most anticipated dramas of these upcoming 10 K-drama. What dramas are you waiting to watch?
